Leather
- Leather is available in wide varieties and styles.
-
The "Best" leather may not be best for your situation, talk with your salesperson
about what is best for your needs.
-
Aniline Leather: Pure or Full aniline leather is soaked in aniline dye but
does not have any other finishes or pigments applied.
-
Aniline is the top grade of leather, it is natural leather and will show natural
coloration, marks, wrinkles, scars and other natural markings.
- Aniline leather is the softest leather.
- Aniline leather is the least stain resistant.
-
Semi-Aniline Leather: is aniline leather with a small amount of coating
or pigment giving them slightly better protection against stains and fading.
- Pigmented leather is made from a lesser-grade hide but it is much more stain and scuff resistant.
- Like a well-worn leather jacket, your furniture will develop a lustrous patina with age and use.
- Leather requires regular maintenance so that you will get the most from your leather.
- Leather and Nubuck protection is available to add to the stain resistance of your piece.
Mattress and Boxspring
- Flipping and rotating a mattress will help to even the wear.
- All mattresses will form a comfort impression where you sleep.
- Using the correct boxspring for your mattress will ensure added life to your mattress.
-
Make sure you always lay on any mattress before purchasing, what may be comfortable to
someone else may not suit you!
-
You spend one third of your life in bed, buying a mattress is a decision that should be
carefully thought out.
- Make sure the mattress will fit you and your sleep space, mattresses vary in size and thickness.
- There are frames available to aid in changing the height of your bed.
-
Keep in mind the current firmness of your mattress. If you have had comfort with the mattress
you currently own it is usually a good idea to stick with that same firmness.
- When sleeping on a new mattress it usually takes around two weeks for your body to adjust.
-
When purchasing a mattress to use on a platform, waterbed frame or foundation it is important to
make sure that the surface is even and level. Any indentations in the surface will create the same
indentations in your mattress. Manufacturers will not warranty the mattress unless the surface is
even and level.
Rattan and White Wash
- Rattan is a tough but solid vine that grows wild in the jungle of the orient.
- Rattan is quite flexible making it one of the strongest woods known to man.
- Rattans durability comes from the natural fibers that run lengthwise through the vine.
-
Rattan will occasionally have splits appear in the wood. If you do not like the look of this
characteristic simply using a soft filler crayon will make the line disappear!
- Many rattans are sold in natural or washed finishes allowing the natural beauty to show.
-
When a washed finish is applied they use a translucent stain allowing all the variation that
nature intended. This process allows the natural knots, dark spots and other natural characteristics
to shine through.
Wood and Laminate
-
Mother Nature has given each tree it's own fingerprint. This print tells the story of where each
tree grew and the weather it has endured. These influences are reflected in the grain and the
pattern of each piece of' wood. The beauty of this product is it's one-of-a-kind character. So
enjoy its natural beauty and uniqueness!
-
Every type of wood has it's own unique natural markings whether it be knots, mineral streaks,
gum pockets or other types of natural beautiful markings.
-
Some types of furniture are produced to be distressed. The manufacturer uses paint spatters, random
indentations or other markings to create this look. Distressing is random and will vary from piece
to piece giving it that unique look.
-
Before purchasing your furniture it is a good idea to think about the look you want. Do you like the
beauty and uniqueness of natural wood or a more uniform even look?
- If you prefer a more even and uniform look then a good option would be laminate.
- When you begin using your new furniture it is important to regularly maintain it.
-
You should avoid keeping pieces in direct sunlight. Over time furniture's finish will lighten
from ultraviolet rays. It is a good idea to try and rotate furniture and keep it away from direct
sunlight or bright ultraviolet lights.
-
Avoid plastic and rubber materials on any furniture surface. Placing these directly on wood furniture
will cause a chemical reaction that will leave a permanent mark or stain! Use doilies
to keep items from sitting directly on the furniture surface.
-
When dusting it is best to use a soft, all cotton cloth moistened with a wax free polish. We recommend
Guardsmen Heritage Furniture Polish, It doesn't have wax in the polish that will leave a build-up. This
can be purchased at hardware and grocery stores. Look for a wax free polish when purchasing any brand.
Upholstery
- Upholstery is available in wide varieties and styles.
-
The "Best" fabric may not be the best for you, talk with your salesperson about
what might be best for your needs.
-
When deciding on a fabric, a general rule to remember is that the tighter the weave the more durable the fabric.
-
Different fabrics, just like in your clothing, will wear differently. Some will stretch and show
normal wrinkling, others are more resilient, some will hold up better for everyday use in a family
room, others are better suited for a sitting or living room. Keep this in mind when planning your order.
- Upholstery can instantly change the look of a room! Decide on how formal or casual the look you want is.
- Fabric protection is available to add to the stain resistance of your piece.
- Upholstery requires regular maintenance to get the most out of your furniture.
-
All styles will stay looking their best by occasionally flipping and rotating the pillows and cushions.
For pillows that are attached, simply fluff them to freshen them up.
-
Upholstery will form comfort impressions, these are indentations where your sitting pattern condenses
the foam or filling in your cushions. Initially most cores are firm and stiff, they will soften with use.
-
Did you know that it is actually a very good thing to vacuum your upholstery? It is actually very damaging
not to. Vacuuming slows down all the dust and dirt particles from wearing your fabric.
-
Try to sit and get a true feel for the design and frame you are interested in. It will look beautiful but
is it comfortable to you?
-
Discuss with your salesperson about fabric grades. A higher grade in fabric does not mean that you are
getting a better fabric.
